I plan my week to ensure I have a balance of activities, incorporating some amusement before the weekend arrives. This approach is key to my feeling good as Monday approaches.
For me, the meaning of a luxurious weekend is rooted in productivity. I always aim to make the most of my time. Slow weekends aren’t for me; they tend to wear me down even more. I enjoy a mix of relaxation, work, and fun.
I embrace slow mornings to be present, energize myself with some exercise, and indulge in my favorite foods. I try to view my weekends as a mini-vacation, which adds more value to those two free days.
Please take my advice: make your weekends more significant than your weekdays. My strategy for spending weekends revolves around personal growth. I draw energy from acquiring new knowledge.
I love books and hobbies. I rarely watch TV, except for an occasional romantic comedy to uplift my mood or a reality show like MasterChef for inspiration. This is how I enjoy my weekends—full of passion and activity. My side projects and hobbies will help me soar one day.
Here are some of my most important tips for a fulfilling weekend. You can also check out my blog post on how to have more great days.
1. Smart Organizing
Maximize your free time to become a master at planning balanced weekends. Prepare materials for your projects, buy delicious food, write a to-do list, make reservations, look for upcoming events, etc.
First, you must identify where you’re lacking and what you will aim for. Should you get more exercise, take a course, or relax? Weekends are a great opportunity to review and achieve your goals.
I believe it’s best to plan monthly to create various experiences. Two trips in a row, followed by a long period without any outings, can get monotonous. It’s more enjoyable to space activities apart: dedicate one weekend to sports, the next to a short trip, and the following to upgrading your knowledge.
Start your weekend right after work by buying good food or making reservations for a late dinner. End the evening with a good book or a movie treat. Now, you have two days left for other desires.
Be meticulous when organizing your schedule and include all errands. It’s best to tackle them in advance, so your weekend doesn’t become a time for catching up. If you have any tasks left, aim to complete them early on Saturday and fully enjoy Sunday.
I am not a big fan of cleaning, so the corner-by-corner cleaning works better for me. Gradually taking care of chores during the week makes it easier for me. I prefer to clean throughout the week to avoid tidying up the entire weekend.
I prepare for the upcoming week on Sundays to minimize stress when Monday arrives. Adopting a decluttering mindset can save you valuable time in the long term.

2. Slow Start
I always wake up early when I have free time. I’ve made a pact to value my time above all else, so it is even easier to wake up for some dedicated “me time.”
Before I have my coffee, I usually eat something, like a piece of rye bread. Even on my days off, I tackle the most demanding tasks first. This way, I don’t feel guilty about going on a day trip or having fun for the rest of the day.
Afterward, I prepare myself a hearty breakfast. I love enjoying my meal without feeling rushed, especially when I can sit outside on a terrace or balcony. Trust me, everything tastes better outdoors. There’s something peaceful about savoring your favorite drink outside. When it’s chilly, I wrap myself in a blanket and enjoy hot chocolate or cocoa.
Remember, don’t sleep in on the weekends. Those hours are some of the best you have each week—seize them abundantly! Why let an alarm ruin your weekend days? It can only make them better.
Be sure to invest some time in searching for tips on how to love yourself.

3. Gatherings for Memories
It’s important to play with the people you care about. Be creative and write great stories together. Establish family weekend traditions to create memories.
Consider hosting a family creative workshop. You can make items from easily moldable materials like paper, such as greeting cards, envelopes, and boxes, or take on challenges with origami techniques.
Engage in activities like playing badminton, darts, or board games like Monopoly. Join in on the kids’ games instead of just watching them play. Kick a ball around or bounce with them on a trampoline.
Be spontaneous and change your weekend plans. Dress up for no particular reason and go out for a drink in a nearby city. Explore museums, visit the main town market, and enjoy street food. Trying something a little different can be refreshing. Even a small change can have a positive impact.
Go shopping together, without the intention of spending money, and observe the items on display. This practice will help you learn to shop with intention, rather than on impulse, and can improve your overall mental health. And don’t worry, everybody is doing so; in a sense, it is now a trendy family weekend trip. Besides, everyone can get involved in future decisions about purchases.
Visit larger stores, for example, that sell home products to get inspiration and see what’s trendy in terms of patterns, forms, and textures. I enjoy doing this often because it allows me to relax without pressure to make immediate decisions. Take pictures of what you like or jot down ideas. Visit multiple shops to find the best combinations and prices.

4. More Will
I walk in winter and in summer, even in the rain. I do it every day, and trust me, there’s no reason not to walk. It’s healthy, and you’ll find satisfaction in a simple stroll through your area.
I don’t need special stimulation or constantly changing locations to keep walking interesting; it has become a habit. However, I enjoy setting goals for longer distances, such as walking a significant part of the local walking path or heading to the town bookstore.
While leisurely walks in nature are wonderful, I love long walks to observe new buildings and appreciate old architecture. It’s a special treat for visual enthusiasts to walk all day in great cities like those in Italy and feel pleasantly tired at the end.
I enjoy intense workouts that make me sweat, whether going for a long run or hiking up a nearby hill. Cycling to a lake where you can swim is also a great option.
Take advantage of community recreation centers and nearby sports facilities. We have a great open community stadium with a soft surface where everyone can run and exercise using free gym equipment and a complimentary water tap. Luxury, right?
I recommend downloading a good exercise app to track your progress and all you’ve explored. This will help keep you motivated. Try to plan at least one longer walk each month.

5. A Treasure Trove of Knowledge
I like to save the most interesting books for the weekends as a special treat. I want to read something inspiring. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of looking at a new cover and leafing through the pages of an entire book.
I love visiting a bookstore to check out what’s new. I don’t go to the library anymore because I prefer having a book to keep forever, something I can read multiple times. I tend to choose long-lasting genres, often of a more technical nature. Additionally, I have a whole stack of digital books on my computer, alongside a full bookshelf.
Since I am determined to succeed, I always make time for a few hours of reading on the weekends. Even when traveling or attending family gatherings, I still find an hour or two to indulge in a good book.
My favorite weekends are those dedicated to reading. Each weekend, I grow and feel more relaxed. Books are a wonderful addiction; I would even say they are my saviors.

6. Homemade Yummy Treats
I love homemade food, even more than dining at restaurants. Trying out new dishes is my favorite way to gain technical experience in the kitchen, as making mistakes helps me understand what can cause a recipe to fail.
However, my favorite tradition is still Pizza Weekend. You can’t beat the delicious simplicity of homemade pizza.
Cooking doesn’t feel like work; it inspires my creativity and is easy to learn. Plus, it’s satisfying to know exactly what ingredients I’m using.
I encourage you to develop your cooking skills. Homemade food is generally much tastier; you’ll feel good about your creations. I particularly dislike store-bought sweets that lack real flavor due to inferior quality and quantity of ingredients. I believe they’re a waste of money. I prefer to enjoy great food less often, and it’s also healthier since I don’t have the time to bake every day.

7. Showing Me
I am trying to incorporate meditative moments into my daily schedule, ideally in the early morning. I love yoga, but find the best relaxation method for you.
I enjoy spending weekends alone, especially after a long and exhausting week. This is often the only time I can truly rest. I love to design solo when nobody is watching my early experiments.
I recommend taking a creative course on the weekends or setting up a workshop at home. For example, you could decide to have a two-hour painting class every weekend. There are plenty of free online courses available to help you get started.
Sometimes, taking on DIY projects for the entire weekend is enjoyable. My next project will be renovating an outdoor seating set since summer is approaching. I’ll be sure to share the results with you.
To add excitement to my weekends, I enjoy organizing little personal challenges, such as creating or designing something I’ve never tried or learning new skills.
Everyone should have a creative hobby, as it can be a great stress reliever.

8. Weekend Getaway
Don’t wait for the holidays to take a break. Extended weekends and summer holidays are often packed with tourists, heavy traffic, and higher prices.
Instead, consider a mini trip on a non-holiday day to a nearby destination. You might be surprised by the local attractions you haven’t yet discovered. A short getaway can be more relaxing since you won’t have to deal with traffic jams or a big budget.
You can either drive to a nearby town or take a train. Do some research on attractions within walking distance, so you spend less time traveling and more time enjoying your destination. Alternatively, you could visit the nearest beach or lake for a picnic and stroll in the sand or grass with your bare feet.
Be creative and find ways to have fun while spending less. Remember, spending less can be enjoyable! You don’t need as much as you think you do; it’s just that you haven’t yet discovered the things that truly bring you happiness. Plus, plenty of free fun activities are available within reach these days! You can also try traveling solo to see how you manage things independently.
You can learn how to save more money and then treat yourself with a carefree trip.

9. Searching for Quality Time
Don’t spend the entire weekend watching TV or browsing social media. Trust me, you won’t get the rest you need; it will likely leave you feeling even more drained.
If you find it difficult to limit your screen time, try setting specific time limits. Use a timer to track how long you spend on unproductive screen activities.
Alternatively, if you enjoy the internet and television, consider using them for personal growth. Spend time researching and learning by watching documentaries, listening to podcasts, and reading tutorials or blogs. If you love scrolling, look for new ideas and save them for future reference.
It’s perfectly fine to have movie nights occasionally and watch two films in a row with some tasty snacks. Just be sure not to spend most of your weekends in front of a screen—it’s not good for your mental health.

10. I love Mondays!
To avoid feeling guilty or overwhelmed on Mondays, plan your weekends wisely. Rest, learn, and have fun, but don’t waste time slacking off. While some might argue that complete relaxation benefits those burnt out, I believe the opposite is true. Total slacking can be just as detrimental. It’s essential to find a balance. We often feel burnt out when we spend time on activities that don’t align with our true passions.
You’ve done a good job if you find yourself energized on Mondays. If you’re feeling frustrated, take a moment to assess why. Are you adapting too much to others’ expectations? Are you engaged in activities that bring you happiness, but do not? For instance, if you dislike your job, it’s natural to dread Mondays.
Learn to disconnect. Don’t let your mind drift to work-related worries. On Fridays, aim to clean your desk, finish important tasks, and plan for the upcoming week. Please write down your worries and leave them on your desk to revisit on Monday. When you take time off, be fully present and avoid constantly checking emails.
Don’t live your life simply waiting for the weekend. Find time for enjoyable activities during the week, so you don’t only look forward to your days off. As I always say, discover your purpose, and you won’t feel overworked. Work transforms from stressful to genuinely joyful when you work towards your passion.
If your job requires you to work weekends, make your mid-week days off as enjoyable as a Friday. Doing things during the middle of the week can often be more rewarding—there are fewer people on the road, better travel deals, and it’s easier to manage official errands.
Why limit your free time to when everyone else is free? You can share a sense of accomplishment on Mondays, while others may feel the Monday blues. The worst thing you can do is let societal norms and negative thoughts ruin your mood. Embrace the difference; it’s interesting! You’re strong enough to enjoy mid-week fun and create your traditions. Plus, working during weekends may increase your chances of earning a better salary.
Whatever your schedule, please take advantage of it and value your time.

My favorites:
Slow mornings
Coffee with cream
Cooking delicious food
Going for a long walk
Spending time alone
Reading, writing, and designing
Learning new things
Enjoying moments with dear ones
Consider these tips as motivation to think about what brings you joy. If you’re sleep-deprived, make sure to get some rest. If you don’t like cooking on Sundays, treat yourself to a restaurant meal. Ensure you don’t waste too much of your free time or money. Strive for a healthy balance in everything you do.
By becoming more present, you can turn weekends into family traditions, lead you to success, and bring you inner peace. Now, make the most of your weekend, escape boredom, and enjoy yourself wherever you are.
